We offer a Welding Program which is our Combination Welding Course
1100. It is 12 Weeks, 240 Hrs. long. It consist of the Basic
Welding Class 1101 (Introduction to Welding Basics, Shielded Metal
Arc Welding – SMAW ‘stick’), TIG Welding 1102 (Gas Tungsten Arc
Welding – GTAW ‘TIG/heliarc’), MIG Welding (Gas Metal Arc Welding –
GMAW ‘MIG’). At the completion of this course the student will
possess the knowledge and experience to walk onto a job and be
capable of welding plate or pipe at an acceptable level of
competency, also to use a torch and grinder as well as other tools
of the trade at a proficient skill level. They will posses the
basic knowledge of PPE and standard safety practices (and know how
to utilize the knowledge). The student will be familiar with the
inner working of a refinery turnaround or shutdown job and will have
been exposed to turnaround experiences and scenarios. At the
completion of this course, the graduate will have acquired a
Certificate of Completion in Combination Welding and have met the
criteria. There are no prerequisites for this course. Single
subjects making up this course can be taken individually and are:
Training Welding - 1101 - Basic Welding Class, this class
includes Introduction to Welding Basics, Electronics of Welding,
Power Sources, Welding Tools – Usage & Care, Measurement Systems,
Basic Metallurgy, Joints, Personal Protective Equipment, Health &
Safety Issues, welding, grinding, and burning on mostly plate
metals, then graduating to pipe.
Training Welding
1102 TIG Welding Class (TIG/heliarc’ Gas Tungsten Arc welding). This
class covers Acetylene torch techniques, basic welding, cutting
techniques, introduction to fitting techniques, pertinent OSHA issues,
HazCom, MSDS sheet understanding, plant permitting systems, safe work
practices, and welding pipe in the shop. Training Welding - 1103 MIG
Welding Class (MIG Gas Metal Arc welding). This class covers welding of
flux core and hard wire, working inside a refinery (overview), reviews
of earlier training information and welding, cutting and fitting of pipe
and plate. Each of these classes is 4 Weeks, 80 Hours long. Class time
consists of 10 Lecture Hours and 70 Lab Hours.
